You have selected the food, the location and have invited people. You are all set for your graduation party, quienceanera, fundraiser, or whatever the occasion is for. As far as it goes it just means to serve the right food, right?
Well we are here to set some guidelines to avoid some of the top mistakes that happen when planning a catered event. These are simple costly mistakes you could avoid…
First: Have a Goal and a Budget
What is the theme of your occasion or is there no theme?
Is this a black tie formal event or a causal event?
To have a goal is to aim for a desired result, and a catered event is no different.
So knowing in advance how much money you have to spend will save you time in finding the right food.
Leaving the decision of the food until the very last minute
There are so many types of catering services that can be offered. Such as
- Mexican Catering Authentic Food
- Tacos Catering
- Sandwich / Burger Catering
Think of what you want and who is coming to your event. Is this a big event or a small one, older or younger people? When having all that in mind and are ready to look for a service, don’t be shy to be picky. This is your catered event.
Not knowing what you are being offered
Communication is key in every type of relationship and talking to your catering provider is no different. Don’t be scared to ask for pictures of whatever they are offering if they don’t provide them on their website or to repeat yourself on what you are expecting. Read your contract and if there is a question then don’t be scared to call and find out. Don’t be scared to do anything, it’s your event.
Underestimating the number of Guests
It’s impossible to know exactly how many people will be attending the event. In this busy and ever-changing world it’s hard to know before hand as you are entering into something before it has even started. So let’s assume you picked Mexican Catering Authentic Food, and you picked a package that offered only up to 50 people, and you have done the math of just how many people will show up, now think of the newly couples that might come, friend or even about seconds. A rule thumb is to have more than what you need.
Having more than one type Food
Like mention earlier, there are different types of catering services, you need to keep in mind that not everyone is going to like Burgers. Get two or more type of dishes depending on your situation, more than likely the catering provider has a different type of package with different dishes; don’t just stick to one. So lets say you get Mexican Catering Authentic Food, so now get different types of meats, you can even mix the dishes if its not offered in the package like Burritos or Tacos or Quesadillas. MIX!! Don’t be one of those type of events..
